What To Expect

What to Expect at your counselling session

Making Contact and your Free 15 minute Consultation

Once you have decided you would like to engage in counselling with me your first step will be to reach out and contact me. You can send me a message through the contact me page. You can send me an email, call me or send me a text. You can also contact me via my Instagram page if you wish. I will then have a chat with you about your needs and what you are seeking and we will have a free 15 minute consultation about your situation. We will have a chat to determine how I can help you and book in your initial appointment. I will then send you an email with information to prepare you for your first session. 


The Initial Session


 The initial session, for both Individual and Couples counselling, will always be an extended session of 90 minutes. The reason for this is to allow more time for the intake and information gathering that is needed for me to form my assessment and treatment plan for your healing. During the initial session, I will ask you questions about your journey so far. I will gather information on all areas of your life and we will also discuss the current issue which brought you to counselling. 


There will be some paperwork for you to complete around consent and we will discuss your goals for counselling. This initial session is also a good time to establish how we feel with each other and whether we are able to connect as Counsellor and Client or if we are a good fit. This is very important to me as I know how important the counselling relationship is for healing to occur. I have heard it too many times from past clients that they have tried so many Counsellors and Psychologist but just did achieve anything because they never really felt comfortable with them or did not connect with them. I am very aware and conscious of this and if I ever feel we are not a good match or I can not help you then I will discuss this with you and research some better options for you before referring you to a better suited service or person. 


Ongoing Sessions


Following your first session with me, follow up appointments will be 60 minutes. During these sessions we will discuss different factors that occur in your life which are impacting you currently. I will help guide you through these sessions to bring you to a place of greater self awareness and help you to better understand yourself, your triggers and your traumas. I will help you to understand why you think and feel the way you do. 


During my sessions I use different things to help the flow of what is being discussed. Sometimes I will use videos or pictures, music, meditation, painting, drawing, colouring in or different resources suited to your needs. I also use Angel Cards to do readings should I feel you need it. These cards can help to explain on a deeper level the current energy you are feeling and help you better understand the whole situation. 


Online Counselling


Online Counselling will flow the same as an in person session except sessions will take place online and will be provided through the resource you are most comfortable with. I offer online sessions using Zoom, Skype, Whatsapp or Viber. I will send you some information prior to our first session to guide you to link in with the video modality you have chosen. During the online sessions I will again guide you through questions and lead the discussion until you are comfortable enough to speak openly. 


How you will feel


Most importantly, what you need to know, is that you will leave your counselling session feeling better and with a sense of greater understanding of yourself as a being. You will start to open your mind to your inner world and grow your self awareness around your own emotions, thoughts and triggers in life. You will become less reactive to life and more aware of your emotions and how you respond to things, people and issues in your day to day life. You will feel empowered to walk out into the world and face anything that comes your way, knowing you are strong enough to cope with it and have the resources to sooth it.
